The truth about possum removal in Victoria
This is the part most people are told wrong, so here it is plainly. Brushtail and ringtail possums are protected wildlife under the Victorian Wildlife Act 1975. You cannot have one taken away and released somewhere else, and no licence exists that lets a pest company do it for you.
Where a brushtail possum is inside a building it may be trapped under the terms of the Act, and the law then requires it to be released on the same property, within 50 metres of where it was caught, on the same night. If it is sick or injured it goes to a vet instead. Those are the only two lawful outcomes.
That sounds like bad news and it is actually the opposite, because relocation never worked anyway. A possum moved into unfamiliar territory usually does not survive, and your roof stays empty for about a week before the next one finds the same open hole. The thing that permanently solves it is closing the hole, and that we can absolutely do.
- We identify the species before anything else happens
- One way door so the animal leaves on its own at dusk
- Every other entry point sealed before the door goes on
- Nest box recommended so it has somewhere else to go
- Nothing is done to a mother with dependent young in the roof
Our work is warranted, and we come back if we need to
Pest work is not a single visit that ends a problem forever, and anybody who tells you otherwise is selling. What a good treatment does is break the cycle and close the way back in. So we warrant the work for an agreed period, we tell you at the start exactly how long that is for your job, and if activity comes back inside it we return and re treat at no cost.
You also get told the honest version on the phone. If your job needs two visits, we say so before you book rather than after we arrive.
- Warranty period agreed in writing before we start
- Free return visit if activity comes back inside it
- Licensed technicians and full public liability cover
- A written record of every product used at your property
- Straight advice about what a treatment can and cannot do

Four steps, and you know each one in advance
From the first call to the report you get afterwards, nothing happens that you were not told about first.
Tell us what you have seen
Call us or send the form with your suburb and what is going on. What you have seen, where, and how long it has been happening. That is usually enough for us to tell you what we are dealing with.
We inspect properly
A technician looks at the whole picture, not just the room you called about. Entry points, roof void, subfloor, food sources and moisture. That is what decides the treatment and the price.
We treat and we proof
Treatment is only half the job. Sealing the way back in is the half that stops you calling us again next season, and we walk you through what we found and what we did.
We follow up
You get a written record of the treatment and the products used, plus a warranty period on the work. If activity comes back inside it, we come back.
Possum removal and roof proofing across Melbourne
The animal is the symptom. The hole in your roof is the problem, and that is what we come to fix.
We find every way in
Broken and slipped tiles, lifted roof sheets, the gap where the roof meets the gutter, rotten fascia, eave gaps and the space above a bay window. A possum needs a surprisingly small opening and it will remember it for years.
One way door on the active point
Fitted at the entry they are actually using, after everything else is closed. The possum pushes out at dusk to feed and cannot get back in. No trap sitting in your roof for a week, no distressed animal.
Then we close it properly
We come back, take the door off and seal that last point with material that lasts. Overhanging branches trimmed back where the tree allows, because access is what makes a roof attractive in the first place.
Possum in the roof, the wall or the pergola
Thumping across the ceiling around dusk and again before dawn is a brushtail in the roof void. Scratching inside a wall cavity is usually one that has fallen down a cavity and cannot climb out, and that one is urgent because it will die in there. Rustling in dense shrubs or a hedge, with a ball of leaves and twigs in it, is a ringtail drey and usually needs nothing done at all.
We will tell you which of those you have, and if the honest answer is that you have a ringtail living happily in your hedge and nothing needs doing, that is what we will say rather than selling you a job.
- Roof void, wall cavities, pergolas, decking and under floor spaces
- Solar panel gaps, which possums use as a covered highway
- Urine soaked ceiling insulation assessed and removed where needed
- Damaged wiring flagged so you can get an electrician in
Looking for a possum catcher or the possum man?
Whatever you searched for, the job you actually want is the same one.
People search possum catcher Melbourne, possum man Melbourne, possum removal near me and possum pest control Melbourne, and they all describe the same problem: something is in the roof and it is keeping the house awake. What they usually do not know yet is that catching is the small part and the law limits where the animal can go, so the value is entirely in the proofing.
So when you call us you get a technician who can identify the species, work out how it is getting in, do the part that is lawful, and close the roof. Not somebody who turns up with a cage and hopes for the best.
Possum proofing, spikes and roof repairs
Proofing is the whole point of the exercise, and it is what the price is mostly buying. Once a roof is genuinely closed, possums stop being your problem and go back to being something you occasionally see on the fence at night, which is where everybody wants them.
Entry points sealed
Tiles reset or replaced, roof to gutter gaps closed, fascia and eave gaps sealed, vents meshed. Done with material that holds up rather than something they will chew through by spring.
Access cut off
Overhanging branches trimmed back where the tree allows, and smooth collars or guards where a downpipe or a post is being used as a ladder.
Solar panels skirted
The gap under a panel array is a covered, warm, predator free run and possums love it. Mesh skirting closes it without touching the panels or your warranty. See bird and solar panel proofing.
Dead possum removal in a roof or wall
If the thumping stopped and the smell started, something has died in the roof or in a wall cavity. It needs to come out. We locate it, remove it, treat the area and deal with the blowflies that follow, and we check the insulation while we are up there. See dead animal removal for the detail.
