Melbourne has three that matter. German cockroaches are the small tan ones with two dark stripes behind the head, they live indoors permanently, they breed inside your kitchen and they are the hardest cockroach job in the country. Ant control and nest treatment
Spraying the trail is the single most common ant mistake, and it makes some species worse. Certain ants respond to a repellent spray by budding, which means the colony splits and you go from one trail to three. What actually works is a transfer product the foragers carry back, so the treatment reaches the nest and the queen rather than the twenty ants you can see on the bench.
Black house ants
The small shiny black ones on the kitchen bench and around the sink. Usually nesting in a wall cavity, under pavers or in the garden bed against the house.
Coastal brown ants
The ones that leave little piles of soil between the pavers and through the cracks in a driveway. They nest deep and they need a treatment that gets carried down rather than sprayed across the top.
White footed and garden ants
Huge foraging numbers, multiple queens, and a bad reaction to repellent sprays. Baited rather than sprayed, so the colony takes it home.
If ants are coming in around a bathroom or a laundry it is worth checking for a slow leak while we are there. Persistent ant activity in one wet area is very often a moisture problem wearing an ant costume.
Spider control, webbing and redbacks

Bed bugs are the job where cheap goes badly wrong. They hide in the seams of a mattress, the frame joints, the bed head, the skirting behind the bed and the power point beside it.
