The signs of a wasp nest at your place
If one of these sounds familiar, there is a nest close by. Wasp removal starts with finding it, including the nests you cannot see from the ground.
Wasp control and nest removal across Melbourne
Wasp season in Melbourne runs from about October and peaks hard in late summer, when a European wasp nest that started as a golf ball in spring can be the size of a basketball and holding thousands of workers. That is why a nest you have been putting off since December suddenly feels urgent in February.
We treat all three species that turn up here, and the species genuinely changes the job. Paper wasps are a quick, low risk treatment. European wasps are a serious one. Mud wasps are mostly harmless and often need nothing more than the nest knocked off and the spot cleaned up.

European wasps and underground nests
European wasps are the ones to take seriously. Bright yellow and black, noticeably chunkier than a paper wasp, and unlike a bee they can sting again and again. They are aggressive around the nest, they recruit in numbers when the nest is disturbed, and they will follow you.
Their nests are usually hidden: in a wall cavity, in a roof void, in a compost heap, in a retaining wall, or underground with nothing showing but a steady stream of traffic in and out of a hole under a shrub. If you can see a constant flight line into one small point, that is what you have.
Do not block the hole. Do not pour anything down it. Both of those push the colony to find another way out, which is sometimes into your wall cavity and then into the house. Keep people and pets away from the flight line and call us.

What does wasp nest removal cost?
Wasp nest removal in Melbourne starts from $169, with the warranty agreed in writing. That covers treating the nest and checking the eaves and wall line for a second one. A nest deep inside a wall cavity, high up or in the ground can cost more, and if yours does you hear the price on the phone before anything is booked.
Your price, before we book
Most jobs are on the starting price. If yours needs more, you hear it on the phone before anything is booked.
Every job includes
- The nest located properly, including the ones you cannot see from the ground
- Treatment matched to the species rather than one product for everything
- Protective equipment on and the area cleared before anything is disturbed
- The nest removed where removing it is the right call
- The site proofed so next spring does not start the same way
- A written record of what we did and the products we used
- A warranty period agreed in writing, with a free return visit inside it
- 10% off when we come the same day
- Nests over doors and play areas prioritised

Nest located and treated
A licensed technician finds the nest, including the ones you cannot see from the ground, and treats it to suit the species.
Proofed and warranted
The nest comes down where that is the right call, the spot is proofed, and you get a written record and a warranty agreed in writing.
Wasp nest in a wall cavity or the roof void
The nest you can hear but cannot see is the one that needs a professional rather than a can from the hardware shop.
How to tell
A steady stream of wasps going in and out of one point on the wall, a weep hole, a gap under the eaves or a vent. Sometimes a faint rustling or papery sound through the plaster on a hot afternoon.
Why spraying the entrance fails
The colony is a metre or more inside the cavity. Product at the entrance kills the few coming and going, agitates the rest, and can push them to chew a new exit into the room on the other side of the wall.
What we do instead
Treat into the cavity through the entrance so the workers carry it back to the nest, then confirm the colony is down before we close the point. The wall stays intact.
Paper wasp and mud wasp nest removal
Two very different wasps, and two very different jobs.
Paper wasps
The open honeycomb style nest hanging off a short stalk, under eaves and pergolas, in a barbecue, in the meter box or under outdoor furniture. Slimmer than a European wasp, with legs that dangle in flight. They will sting if the nest is disturbed, but they do not hunt you down. Treated and taken down in one visit, usually quiet within hours.
Mud wasps
The hard mud tube nests on a wall, under an eave or behind a downpipe. Also called mud daubers, they build alone rather than in a colony. Very unlikely to sting and genuinely useful, because they hunt spiders. Usually the nest is just knocked off and the mark cleaned up, and we will tell you when you do not need a treatment at all.
A wasp nest only gets worse
This is what we see when a nest is left to grow, or disturbed before it is treated.
They sting again and again
Unlike a bee, a European wasp can sting repeatedly. Disturb the nest and they recruit in numbers, and they will follow you.
A blocked hole pushes them inside
Block the hole or pour something down it and the colony finds another way out, sometimes through your wall cavity and into the house.
Bigger every week until late summer
Wasp season peaks hard in late summer. The longer a nest is left, the more workers there are to defend it and the bigger the job.
The same spot next season
The same colony will not come back, but a good nest site draws a new nest next spring unless it is treated and proofed.
Emergency wasp removal in Melbourne
Some wasp jobs are not something to book in for next week.
Nests we move on
A nest over a doorway, beside a clothesline, above a sandpit, at a childcare centre or a school. Same day where we possibly can.
Tell us about allergies
If somebody with a known sting allergy lives there, say so on the call and we will prioritise you.
Until we get there
Keep everyone away from the flight line, close the windows on that side, bring the pets in, and do not throw anything at it.
A disturbed European nest is far more dangerous than an undisturbed one. Leave it alone and call us.

Why a can from the hardware shop is not wasp removal
A can kills the wasps it touches. With a European nest in a wall or in the ground, that is a few foragers at the entrance and an angry colony behind it.

European, paper or mud wasp?
Paper wasps hang an open honeycomb nest off a short stalk. European wasps are bright yellow and black, chunkier, and hide their nest in a wall, a roof void or the ground. Mud wasps build hard mud tubes and live alone.
Not sure if it is wasps or bees? Bees are rounder and hairy and they visit flowers. Choose “Not sure if wasps or bees” on the form and we work it out with you on the call.
If they come back, so do we
Before we start, we agree your warranty period in writing and tell you exactly how long it is for your job. If wasp activity comes back inside it, we come back and re treat at no cost to you. If your job needs two visits, we say so before you book.

Wasp questions, answered properly
What does wasp nest removal cost?
Wasp nest removal starts from $169, with the warranty agreed in writing. That covers treating the nest and checking the eaves and wall line for a second one. A nest deep inside a wall cavity, high up or in the ground can cost more, and you always hear the price on the phone before we book. Book it for today and 10% comes off.
How fast can you get to a wasp nest?
Usually the same day where we have a slot, and wasps are a job we prioritise, because a nest beside a door or over a play area is a genuine risk rather than an inconvenience. Call early in the day for the best chance of a slot. If somebody in the house has a known allergy, say so on the call and we will move you up.
Can I just spray it myself?
With a small paper wasp nest you can see and reach in daylight, often yes. With a European wasp nest, please do not. A disturbed European nest defends itself in numbers, they can sting repeatedly, and they will chase. Nests in a wall cavity or underground are worse again, because the spray you can reach is nowhere near the colony and all you have done is made them angry near your house.
Do you have to remove the nest itself?
For paper and mud wasps we treat and take the nest down. For a European wasp nest inside a wall or underground, the treatment is what matters and the physical nest often stays where it is, because opening a wall to retrieve it causes more damage than leaving it. We will tell you which applies to yours and why.
How long until they are gone?
Paper wasps go quiet within hours. A European wasp nest usually stops within 24 to 48 hours, and you should expect to see returning foragers during that window, which is normal and is actually how the treatment reaches the rest of the colony. If there is still genuine activity after that, call us and we come back.
Will they come back to the same spot?
The same colony will not, but the same location often attracts a new nest next season, because whatever made it a good site is still true. Sheltered eaves, a wall cavity with a gap, a meter box and a hole in the ground under a shrub are all repeat offenders. We can treat and proof the spot so next spring is somebody else’s problem.
Is it a wasp or a bee?
Bees are rounder and hairy and they visit flowers. Wasps are smoother, more sharply banded and more interested in your meat and your drink at a barbecue. It matters, because a bee hive has comb and honey that must come out after treatment. If it turns out you have bees we will tell you and handle it as a bee job.
Do you do commercial and strata wasp work?
Yes. Schools, childcare, aged care, cafes with outdoor seating, warehouses and body corporate common property. We can attend outside trading hours so the area is empty while we work and clear by the time you open.
