Bees in a wall cavity, a roof or a chimney
This is where bee jobs get serious, and where the wrong decision costs thousands. An established colony inside a cavity has wax comb, brood and often many kilos of honey, and all of it has to come out.
Never seal the entrance. It feels like the obvious fix and it is the worst thing you can do. The bees die, nothing is left to keep the hive cool, and the honey melts and runs down inside the wall. What you get afterwards is staining through the plaster, a smell that does not leave, and a cavity that now attracts ants, cockroaches, wax moth and next season’s swarm to the same spot.
A proper cut out means opening the cavity, removing the comb and the honey, cleaning the cavity so the scent that attracts the next colony is gone, and sealing it. It is more work than a swarm and it is the only version that actually ends.
